Why do women perpetuate the myth of preferring brun guys when they actually prefer blonds?

In a multi cultural society it is so patent: All blond men are coupled or married earlier, and the best looking women (of all races) are coupled with a blond. Polls perpetuate the myth of the 'modest' gal who makes do with commoners. Why the deflection???
